Ismatul Hidayah,  Nuhfil Hanani,  Ratya Anindita,  Budi Setiawan

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the level of production and cost efficiency on paddy farming system with integrated plant and resource management (IPRM) approach in Buru District Maluku Province. Maximum  Likelihood Estimation (MLE) method was used to estimate parameters in both frontier stochastic models. 120  respondents was determined by using simple random sampling method. The empirical finding shows that the  varies of the error term in both models are mostly influence by inefficiency factors (γ production= 0.933; γ cost = 0.948) rather than stochastic factors. The average  technical efficiency is 0.855 and 75.83% respondent already  operates in this level of efficiency. The average cost efficiency is 0.86 and 80% of respondent already achieve  this level of cost efficiency. These findings indicate that rice farming system with integrated plant and resource  management approach in the research area are efficient and profitable.

Muhammad Fauzi Makki, Moch. Muslich Mustadjab, Nuhfil Hanani, Rini Dwiastuti

Abstract
Paddy farmer household at Lebak  swampland are poor because of low income. Efforts to increase household paddy farmer’s income in Lebak swampland  are always associated associated with the economic factor as price; subsidies and expansion area (extensification). This study aims to analyze the impact of economic factors change on farm household incomes in the Lebak swampland. Data is analyzed by using agricultural  economic household models, with simultaneous equations. The results showed that the increase in input prices of paddy (seeds,  fertilizers, pesticides and labor outside the family) would decrease farmer household income. The increased of  input price followed by  an increased in paddy output price in same proportion were able to increase farm  households income. Seed subsidies are also able to  increase the household income. In contrast; paddy area  expansion or extensification would decrease household income. Therefore, the expansion program option at  lebak swampland is not priority choice.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to analyze the impact the ASEAN-China Free Trade  Area (ACFTA) agreement on  performance of Indonesia maize economy and to find out alternative policies within the maize self-sufficiency  framework. This research uses an econometric model with a simultaneous equations system. Parameter  estimation used is Two Stages Least Squares (2SLS). Forecasting the performance of Indonesia maize economy  and the search for policy alternatives in 2010-2015 ACFTA eras is performed using ex ante simulation. The  implementation trade liberalization agreements of ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) have  negative  impact on Indonesia maize economy. Indonesia does not have a policy package that can be used as a policy  instrument for Indonesia maize self-sufficiency. Effective policy is to ban the import, but IT is difficult to do  because contradict with ACFTA agreement. If Indonesia ‘should’ make maize self-sufficiency, then the policy  that needs to be done is policies combination to increase acreage of 6.29% per year, to increase productivity  3.5%, and to increase raise maize prices by 4:47% through price subsides.

Abstract

Cattlemen allocate labor on their cattle business. These activities have contributed further to the family income used to meet household needs. Besides the beef business, they seek food crops such as rice, corn, peanuts  and so forth to obtain additional income. The breeders utilized the technology of artificial insemination and  natural mating in the beef cattle production. The usage of insemination technology was expected to increase  the income derived from the beef cattle that will result in increasing the investments and the income of farming  food crops. The objectives of this study were to analyze the correlating factors that affect the farmers’ income  from the cattle business and farming crops under condition of the usage of  artificial insemination technology  and  to analyze the effects of the external factor changing  toward the profits of  beef cattle business, the costs  of cattle production , the cost of crop production,  food crops farm income, animal health costs and the cost of  the barn with the condition of the artificial technology usage. The measurement technology of the artificial  insemination used the cost inseminator approach. This research was a case study of 70 cattlemen in the village  of Kanonang III Minahasa District selected by random sampling. Model of simultaneous equations with the  method of 2 SLS were used to estimate all the parameters of the study. The result of these research showed  that the economic model of cattlemen can be explain in relation to the use of artificial insemination with income  and costs of production in cattle and farm crops as well. The effect of external factor on cattlemen household’s  economy was that 10% increasing of inseminator cost was the best alternative scenario that can increase the  income of cattle business with 7.48%, beef production cost 0.17%, food plant production cost 5.32%, income of  food plant business 4.56%, cattle medication cost 4.52% and cage cost 2.27%. These results indicated that the  artificial insemination technology could improve economics performance of cattlemen.

The Impact of Trade Liberalization on the Soybean Economic  Performance in Indonesia
Muhammad Firdaus,  M. Iksan Semaoen, Nuhfil Hanani AR, Syafrial

ABSTRACT

This study  intended to analyze the impact of trade liberalization on Indonesia soybean economic performance. Econometric model of Indonesia soybean economy was built through the simultaneous equations system.  Parameter estimation  was  Two Stage Least Square method (2SLS). Forecasting performance and the  formulation of policy alternatives was done by using the ex-ante simulation. The results showed as follow: (1)  the main  producers and  exporters of  soybeans  are  the U.S., Brazil,  and  Argentina,  while  the main  soybean  importer are China, Japan, and Germany, (2) full liberalization of world trade causes the rise of world soybean  imports,  and  the  reduced  of world  soybean  exports  cause  the world  soybean prices  increase.  For Indonesia,  although the world soybean prices rise, but due to the implementation of full trade liberalization the price of  imported soybeans become cheaper  and  resulting in falling prices and rising imports, and  (3)  the increased  China imports and the decline in U.S. soybean production  has  increased  the  world soybean prices. For  Indonesia, raising the world soybean prices led to rising soybean import prices so domestic prices of soybean  rises and soybean imports decline.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this research was to analyze interrelation between factors affecting the economic behavior of cattle farmers in the utilizing of artificial insemination technology as well as natural mating and the impact of changes in external factors on household economic. The measurement of artificial insemination technology used the cost of  inseminator approach. This research used survey method in order to gain and collect any information of 100 households randomly chosen. Simultaneous equation model and 2SLS method were employed in estimating all research parameters. The results, eventually,  showed that economic model of household established can well describe the interrelation between the utilization of artificial insemination technology and natural mating with the economic trait of household. Moreover, the artificial insemination technology and natural mating actually showed an impact on value added of cattle business and subsequently significantly affect the usage of family labor, the cost of forage crops, cattle health cost,  cost of stable, cattle selling value, production value of manure, rent out value of stud and value of unsold cattle. Farmer’s income significantly influence on food consumption, non-food consumption and family saving. Then, the simulation of increasing utilization of artificial insemination technology of 25% combined with the increasing of natural mating as well as cultivated land area of 25% was  the best impact toward the household economic of traditional cattle farmers.
